Employment Law is the law that governs the relationship
between employers and employees. It is set out in the
Employment Contracts Act and some other Acts such as the
Holidays Act and Parental Leave Act. These Acts state
what terms of employment can be governed by an employment
contract and what terms are set out in law. For businesses employment law can be a minefield. We
can assist in advising employers reliable and timely legal
advice to prevent problems before they arise. For employees we can provide advice and assistance with
personal grievances and advocacy. We advise on:
- Drafting and advising on Employment Agreements and other
documentation
- Proper procedures for hiring and dismissing employees
- Redundancy procedures
- Avoidance or resolution of personal grievances and other
employer/employee disputes
At Bannermans we are vastly experienced in the
administration of deceased estates. Estate administration requires a balance of sensitivity to
the family and friends of the deceased, a vigorous upholding
of the terms of the Will and the relevant law, and
persistence in pursuing and closing the myriad of details
involved in finalising an estate. We are proud of our long history of bringing our client’s
legal and financial affairs to a close both accurately and
in a timely manner. We are able to assist executors or administrators of an
estate with:
- obtaining
a grant of probate or letters of administration
- obtaining
details of all assets and liabilities of the estate, taking
reasonable steps to protect and preserve the assets and (as
appropriate) selling and disposing of property in the course
of administration of the estate
- paying
debts, testamentary expenses and taxes of the estate
- keeping
accounts and records of all dealings involving the assets of
the estate; and
- distributing the assets of the estate according to the terms
of the Will or rules of intestacy.
We often liaise with and use the services of valuers,
accountants, real estate agents, sharebrokers and other
appropriate advisers in the course of administration of the
estate.
We have extensive experience in most areas of family law

protection

The use of natural resources, particularly water, and the
adverse affects of intensive agriculture are significant
issues in Southland, particularly with the expansion of the
dairy industry. We can assist clients with advice on what resource consents
are necessary for their business. We can also assist with the preparation for and conduct of
consent hearings as well as representation before the
Environment Court with prosecutions for environmental
offences.
A Will is one of the most important documents you will ever
sign. For your Will to do what you want it is
essential it is properly prepared. Bannermans have the
experience to ensure that your Will is drafted so as to
ensure that your wishes are recorded and can in fact be
carried out in line with your intentions. Enduring Powers of Attorney are often considered at the same
time a Will is prepared. These provide for someone to
manage a client’s affairs if they happen to suffer an
incapacitating accident, stroke or debilitating accident. With the experience we have in this field we can offer
appropriate advice in relation to these important documents.
